KENAF FOR THE PEOPLE

The Kenaf for the People Scheme (KUR) is an initiative by LKTN to increase the economic level of households in the bottom 40 percent income group (B40) to RM5,270 per month.

The pilot program of the KUR was introduced in 2016 involving kenaf entrepreneurs and companies. Following that, LKTN implemented a program to develop kenaf bio-retting processing entrepreneurs who only carry out kenaf processing activities and are not involved in kenaf planting. This program is known as the Kenaf for the People (KUR) Pilot Scheme, which involves bio-retting processing with a production of 1 ton of fiber per month by 1 family with an estimated income of RM1,000 – RM4,000 per month.

In 2017, 9 pioneering KUR entrepreneurs were established with a production scale of 250kg – 800kg of clean fiber per month. The average income is around RM1,000 – RM3,200.
