KENAF SEED BREEDING COURSE 2024
The Training Unit of the National Kenaf and Tobacco Board (LKTN) has organized the 2024 Kenaf Seed Breeding Course at the Kenaf Seed Processing Center, Beseri, Perlis.
This course involved 28 participants consisting of LKTN staff and the Target Group from all over Malaysia.
The objective of this course is to provide training and skills and knowledge to the participants about the development of the latest varieties of kenaf seeds in the production of high quality kenaf.
Among the modules studied on the first day of the course were Introduction to Plant Mutation Breeding, Radiosensitivity Testing and Mutant Tree Screening Methods by Puan Shakinah binti Salleh (Senior Research Officer, Agrotechnology and Bioscience Division) from the Malaysian Nuclear Agency. While for the afternoon session, the course module continued with the title Characterization of Agronomic Properties and Morphology of Kenaf and Case Studies in the Development of New Mutant Kenaf Varieties Using Gamma Radiation by Dr Zaiton binti Ahmad (Director, Agrotechnology and Bioscience Division) from the Malaysian Nuclear Agency.
On the second day of the course, participants were exposed to practical learning about Kenaf Data Insights in the Farm and Hands-On (Seedling Testing and Experimental Design).
